Itinerary
Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world, on a site measuring 162.6 hectares (1,626,000 m2; 402 acres). It was originally constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century. It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yaśodharapura, the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaiva tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation.
South Gate Angkor Thom serves as the principal entrance to the ancient walled city of Angkor Thom, built in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. As the best-preserved and most visited gate of the city, it connects the road leading from Angkor Wat directly to the central Bayon Temple.
The Causeway of Devas and Asuras: Leading across the moat to the entrance gate is a monumental bridge flanked by 108 stone figures. On the left side stand 54 Devas (gods) with serene expressions, while on the right stand 54 Asuras (demons) with grimacing faces. Together, they hold the body of the mythical serpent Vasuki, depicting the Hindu creation myth of the Churning of the Ocean of Milk. Four-Faced Tower: The gateway tower rises approximately 23 meters and is topped with four large, serene face carvings looking toward the four cardinal directions. These faces represent Avalokiteshvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) and reflect the facial features of King Jayavarman VII.
Airavata Sculptures: At the base of the gate, flanking the narrow passageway, are carvings of Airavata—the three-headed sacred elephant of the god Indra—whose trunks lower to gather lotus flowers from the water below.
Structural Defense: Beyond its symbolic and spiritual decoration, the gate functioned as a defensive mechanism, embedded within a 23-foot high laterite wall and surrounded by a vast 100-meter-wide moat to protect the royal capital.
Theravada Buddhist temple of the Khmer Empire located at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of King Jayavarman VII, it stands at the centre of Jayavarman’s capital city, Angkor ThomThe Bayon reflects the strong Buddhist orientation of Jayavarman VII’s reign. Originally conceived as a Mahayana Buddhistmonument centered on the cult of the Bodhisattva of compassion, the temple later adapted to the spread of Theravada Buddhism in Cambodia. Its iconography, spatial organization, and emphasis on compassion and kingship illustrate the close relationship between Buddhism and royal authority at Angkor, while its continued use as a Buddhist sanctuary demonstrates the enduring influence of Buddhism in the region
Ta Prohm Temple is one of Cambodia’s most enchanting and atmospheric temples, located within the Angkor Archaeological Park near Siem Reap. Built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries by King Jayavarman VII, Ta Prohm was originally a Buddhist monastery and university dedicated to his mother. Today, it is famous for its ancient stone galleries, mysterious corridors, carved walls, and enormous tree roots growing over the temple’s centuries-old ruins.
Walking through Ta Prohm feels like stepping into a forgotten world, where nature and history exist beautifully together. The towering silk-cotton and strangler fig trees embrace the stone structures, creating a magical and unforgettable atmosphere. Visitors can explore peaceful courtyards, admire detailed carvings, and discover hidden corners surrounded by jungle.

8:00 leaving from Your Hotel and directly to Preah Khan Temple , passed by South Gate of Angkor Thom will reach there at 8:45 nimutes. Take rushly 1-1:30 hours to discover The Temple
Preah Khan Royal Swordis a temple at Angkor, Cambodia, built in the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII to honor his father. It is located northeast of Angkor Thomand just west of the Jayatataka baray, with which it was associated. It was the centre of a substantial organization, with almost 100,000 officials and servants. The temple is flat in design, with a basic plan of successive rectangulargalleries around a Buddhist sanctuary complicated by Hindu satellite temples and numerous later additions. Like the nearby Ta Prohm, Preah Khan has been left largely unrestored, with numerous trees and other vegetation growing among the ruins. Preah Khan was built on the site of Jayavarman VII's victory over the invading Chams in 1191. Unusually the modern name, meaning ""holy sword"", is derived from the meaning of the original—Nagara Jayasri (holy city of victory). The site may previously have been occupied by the royal palaces of Yasovarman II and Tribhuvanadityavarman. The temple's foundation stela has provided considerable information about the history and administration of the site: the main image, of the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvarain the form of the king's father, was dedicated in 1191 (the king's mother had earlier been commemorated in the same way at Ta Prohm). 430 other deities also had shrines on the site, each of which received an allotment of food, clothing, perfume and even mosquito nets; the temple's wealth included gold, silver, gems, 112,300 pearls and a cow with gilded horns. The institution combined the roles of city, temple and Buddhist university: there were 97,840 attendants and servants, including 1000 dancers and 1000 teachers
Neak Pean is a unique small temple located on an island in the center of an ancient reservoir called Jayatataka. Built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century, it was associated with healing and Buddhist beliefs. The name “Neak Pean” means “Entwined Serpents,” referring to the naga sculptures surrounding the central sanctuary. A beautiful wooden walkway leads visitors across the water toward the temple, offering peaceful views of the surrounding landscape. The site is especially attractive during the green season when the reservoir reflects the sky and surrounding trees. Spend around 45 minutes to one hour enjoying the scenery, photographing the architecture, and discovering its spiritual history. It is a peaceful and refreshing stop on the Angkor Grand Tour.
Ta Som is a charming late-12th-century temple built by King Jayavarman VII and dedicated to his father, King Dharanindravarman II. Although smaller than many temples in the Angkor complex, Ta Som offers a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere and beautiful examples of Khmer architecture. The temple features carved galleries, smiling Buddhist faces, delicate devatas, and scenes from ancient Khmer religious traditions. Its most famous feature is the eastern gate, where an enormous fig tree has gradually embraced the stone structure, creating one of the most memorable photographs of the Grand Tour. Allow around 45 minutes to one hour to explore the temple, walk through its quiet corridors, and appreciate the relationship between ancient architecture and nature. Ta Som is an ideal place to slow down and experience the peaceful beauty of Angkor.
Eastern Mebon is an impressive 10th-century temple built during the reign of King Rajendravarman II, around the middle of the 10th century. Originally located on an island in the center of the large East Baray reservoir, the temple once appeared to rise dramatically from the water. Today, the reservoir is mostly dry, but the temple’s elevated terraces still reveal its former importance. Visitors can admire the massive stone elephants standing at the corners, along with guardian lions, beautifully carved lintels, and Hindu religious imagery. Spend approximately 45 minutes to one hour exploring the three main levels and discovering its architectural details. The temple provides a fascinating glimpse into Angkor’s sophisticated water-management system and religious traditions. With Samnang Private Taxi, you can enjoy a comfortable and flexible visit while taking time for photography and exploration.
Pre Rup is a striking 10th-century temple mountain built by King Rajendravarman II and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Constructed mainly from brick and laterite, the temple rises in three impressive tiers and offers a powerful example of classical Khmer architecture. Its name is traditionally associated with a ritual involving the transformation or changing of a body, although the exact ancient ceremony remains debated. Visitors can climb the upper terraces to appreciate the temple’s symmetrical design, towers, carved doorways, and surrounding countryside. Allow about one hour to explore Pre Rup at a relaxed pace and enjoy its beautiful atmosphere. The warm color of the brick becomes especially attractive in the late afternoon, making the temple a memorable stop on the Grand Tour. It is a wonderful place to appreciate Cambodia’s ancient architecture, history, and spiritual heritage.
A tour start at 8:00 am after your lovely breakfast, will take about one hour drive to begin your day with a beautiful journey to Banteay Srei, one of Cambodia’s most exquisite ancient temples. Often called the “Jewel of Khmer Art,” this small pink-sandstone temple is famous for its exceptionally delicate carvings and graceful architecture. Banteay Srei was dedicated on 22 April 967 during the 10th-century Angkorian period and is associated with the Hindu god Shiva. Unlike the larger temples of Angkor, its intimate scale allows visitors to appreciate every detail of its beautifully carved lintels, pediments, guardians, and divine figures. Spend around 1 to 1.5 hours walking through the temple, taking photographs, and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The soft pink sandstone looks especially beautiful in the morning light. Continue to Phnom Kulen National Park, a beautiful mountain landscape filled with forests, waterfalls, ancient carvings, and important Khmer history. During your visit, enjoy a refreshing walk through the natural surroundings and discover the famous Kulen Waterfall, where visitors can relax beside the flowing water. You can also see the River of a Thousand Lingas, featuring ancient carvings in the riverbed that reflect Hindu religious traditions. Allow approximately 2–3 hours for sightseeing, swimming or relaxing at the waterfall, photography, and exploring the mountain’s cultural atmosphere. End your wonderful day with a relaxing visit to Kampong Phluk Floating Village, a fascinating community located on the Tonlé Sap floodplain near Siem Reap. Take a traditional boat ride through the waterways and discover a unique Cambodian lifestyle closely connected with the changing water levels of the lake. During the wet season, the village becomes surrounded by water, while in the dry season the landscape reveals more of the tall stilted houses, fields, and local pathways. Spend around 1.5 to 2 hours enjoying the boat trip, photographing the traditional houses, observing local life, and experiencing the peaceful atmosphere of the Tonlé Sap region. The village offers a wonderful opportunity to see Cambodia beyond its ancient temples and understand the importance of fishing and water-based communities.
